The COVID-19 pandemic has reinforced particularly five trends that were already exerting influence on international politics. Accordingly, globalization is facing greater competition from regionalization and decoupling; digital transformation is gathering pace and pervasiveness; effective governance is regaining strength against populism; state fragilities are becoming worse particularly in Turkey’s broad neighborhood; and finally great power competitions including US-China rivalry are intensifying. The international political scene defined by these trends present challenges and opportunities for Turkey.
