The Future of Healthcare Services and Economy After Global Outbreak

The year 2020 hit the headlines of the world pandemic history with COVID19. This epidemic, which started in China and affected the world on short notice, was declared as a pandemic by the World Health Organization on March 11, 2020. To date, it affects almost all countries, with about nine million cases, and is still active, with close to half a million deaths, and continues today with more than 100.000 case reports daily. As of today, the outbreak is ongoing and can be predicted that it will remain in the coming months and even years.

With the impact of the global pandemic, the adequacy and success of the health systems of countries and the world have been questioned. After the first patient-reported on March 11, 2020, in Turkey, the success of our government and the health system in this struggle is remarkable. The ability to make quick decisions and implementation of the presidential system of government has significantly positively influenced Turkey’s power and success in fight with the pandemic. While many of the developed countries have failed in this struggle, Turkey has come to an appreciated position among the nations of the world with its recently and successfully implemented health transformation policies, build upon sufficient health infrastructure, high coverage in general health insurance, easiness of access to health, and with fast and accurate decisions taken during the outbreak. Turkey served as a model country; in particular with the city hospitals put into service during the pandemic; with the supply and distribution of the personal protective materials that are needed; with providing and free distribution of medicines to be used in the treatment; with the domestic and national mechanical ventilators manufactured in cooperation with public industry; with two emergency hospitals with a capacity of 1008 beds that the foundations were laid and put into service on both sides of Istanbul in a period of 40 days; and with the management of pandemic away from economic concerns. In addition to all these achievements, it is essential to emphasize the devoted, knowledgeable, experienced, and skilled works of all healthcare professionals, especially physicians. The impact of Turkey’s present success will ease the planning of the new period, and it is once again proved to the world that Turkey is a big country with the help of health supplies to more than 100 countries.
