The Heartland of the National Struggle : Ankara's Process of Becoming he Center of National Struggle

This article examines how the city of Ankara became the administrative and political center of the struggle during the years of the National Struggle. First of all, it examines the necessary conditions for it to become a center and the railroad and highway facilities that make Ankara different from other cities, the status, location, and impact of the 20th Corps in the region are discussed. Discussions between the delegation formed in Sivas, and the commanders about moving the political center to Ankara are evaluated. The developments that triggered the decision of the Delegation to Ankara and Mustafa Kemal Pasha's views on this issue are analyzed. The article details the details of the delegation's journey from Sivas to Ankara under harsh winter conditions and describes their welcome in the city of Ankara. In order to influence the Assembly of Deputies to be convened in Istanbul, the Delegation wanted the deputies to travel to Istanbul with a stop in Ankara. In the article, Mustafa Kemal Pasha's Ankara days and the events that took place there meetings are included. In the last part of the article, the centralization of Ankara's institutionalization efforts has been addressed.
