Dear TÜBA-HER Readers,

It is clear that the pandemic has had a profound impact on higher education, as well as on many other fields. Journals have published special issues on this subject. In this issue, we have attempted to bring together various studies conducted in higher education during the period of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the meantime, it is important to note that studies conducted with the aim of understanding the effects of the pandemic on higher education and evaluating the experiences during this period have the potential to become a new subfield of study in the academic world. In the article titled “Distance Education Satisfaction in Higher Education Students During COVID-19 Pandemic: A Survey” the authors examine the satisfaction levels of students’ distance education experiences. This study offers an important perspective on the transformation of the pandemic period in educational processes. Muhammet Yorulmaz, Gülin Feryal Can, and Pelin Toktaş’s “A Pilot Study on Comparison of Teaching Workloads of Academicians Based on Working Periods During and Before the COVID-19 Pandemic” compares the working conditions of academics before and during the pandemic. This study focuses on evaluating the experiences of lecturers and changes in teaching workloads. Furthermore, studies examining the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on academic performance and psychological capital are also included. Mehmet Seyhan, Özlem Yaşar Uğurlu, Duygu Kızıldağ, and Gülden İpek Polat’s article, “The Moderating Role of COVID-19 Fear in the Relationship of Psychological Capital and Academic Performance: A Research on Academicians” addresses this issue.

The article, “Evaluation of Surgical Nursing Intern Practice Program: Participatory Action Research,” by Emine Çatal, Cafer Özdemir, and Fatma Cebeci, examines the effectiveness of practice programs in the field of surgical nursing and reveals important findings through the use of the participatory action research method. The article, “Historical Development of Foundation Universities from Organizational Ecology Perspective,” written by Irge Şener and Ahmet Anıl Karapolatgil, examines the historical development of foundation universities from the perspective of organizational ecology. This study offers a valuable contribution to the understanding of the institutional structure of foundation universities and provides a perspective from the past to the present.

In their article, “A Qualitative Research on Data Journalism Education in Higher Education: Risks and Opportunities,” Rabia Serttaş and Elif Korap Özel address the risks and opportunities of data journalism education in higher education from a qualitative perspective. This study addresses an important gap in the field of media education and offers suggestions for future research.

It is our hope that this issue will provide our readers with a pleasant and informative reading experience.

Sincerely yours,
