Evaluation of New Coronavirus Disease (Covid-19) Pandemic on Waste Generation Habits
New Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and its pandemic, like many aspects of day- to-day life, has transformed our consumption and waste behavior globally, hence caused deterioration in waste management systems and their implementations. While increasing consumption of familiar products, the pandemic also resulted in introduction of new products such as protective masks into our daily life, thus significantly increased the amount of waste produced. Changes in existing waste practices and disposing of new above mentioned waste materials caused disruptions in waste management systems throughout the World, threatening the planet with even more pollution. To develop effective new solutions and system improvements, the behavioral patterns should be well analyzed and understood both in terms of environmental and behavioral sciences. This new situation is likely to be permanent and requires integrated waste management principles developed by people working in both areas.
