Bingol During the National Struggle
Bingol During the National Struggle
The province of Bingöl and its current districts have undergone numerous administrative changes throughout history. During the National War of Independence, there was no Bingöl Province as a name, and the settlements and administrative units of Çapakçur, Kiğı, and Genç, which are located within today’s provincial boundaries, were affiliated with other provinces. Therefore, this study will focus on the administrative, economic, social, and political developments in the administrative units of the Genç Sanjak, which was sometimes affiliated with the Bitlis Province and sometimes autonomously managed, along with the Çapakçur and Kulp districts under its authority, and the Kiğı district affiliated with Erzurum during the National War of Independence. As there has not been a detailed study on Genç, Kiğı, and their surroundings during the National War of Independence to date, the main sources of this article are largely documents from the Presidency State Archives and the Republic and Ottoman Archives.
