Local History of the National Struggle 1918-1923 (Vol 7): Kastamonu - Sinop - Karabük - Bolu Düzce - Zonguldak - Bartın

Karabük During the National Struggle

During the years of the National Struggle, Safranbolu accident was at the center of the events in the Karabük region. First of all, the region constituted a buffer zone between Kastamonu province and Bolu, Düzce, Bartın and Zonguldak districts. Therefore, Karabük and its surroundings were directly affected by the events that developed in the region and developed their attitude towards the National Struggle in this direction. Although Mustafa Kemal Pasha was in Havza, Safranbolu notables contacted him and declared that they would do their best for the national cause. However, the fact that those who were in the administration of the accident took a side with the Istanbul Government, delay the joining of the region to the Kuvâ-yı Milliye. The most important event in the region is the spread of the uprisings in Bolu and Düzce to Safranbolu. The events known as the Dayıoğlu Incident and which manifested themselves in Safranbolu, on the other hand, threatened the province of Kastamonu and interested them closely. It seems that Dayıoğlu and Eğri Ahmet, who were at the head of the rebels, had thought of occupying Kastamonu after Safranbolu, preventing the shipment of weapons and ammunition, and besieging Ankara from the north. Dayıoğlu incident, which showed itself in Safranbolu, was ended by the national forces sent from Kastamonu. After that, a branch of the Defense of Rights Society was opened in Safranbolu and the region joined the Kuvâ-yı Milliye. In the process after that, Karabük region gave support to the National Struggle. The occupations were protested in Safranbolu, and the people of Safranbolu made important contributions to the production of the shoes needed by the army and the saddles used by the cavalry.
