Düzce During the National Struggle
Düzce During the National Struggle
Düzce, which was an accident in Bolu liva during the National Struggle period, became one of the strategically important regions in Anatolia during the period in which the Turkish nation struggled for existence. In this study, the administrative, political, military, economic, demographic and socio-cultural developments in the Duzce accident were evaluated and the extraordinary conditions of the period were discussed in the light of original information and documents within the framework of their effects on the region. The people of Düzce did not remain silent against the invasions and the atrocities of the Entente States in contradiction with the Armistice of Mondros and participated in the National Struggle. In contrast to the Ottoman administration, which meets the atrocities of the Employment Movements of the Entente States, which was attempted on the people, the people attempted to defend their homeland for the future of the country. As a result of the invasion of İzmir by the Greek forces on May 15, 1919, the “Redd-i İlhak Society“ was formed in Düzce. After the Sivas Congress, which accelerated the national resistance in Anatolia, the Sivas Congress was replaced by the “Düzce and Akçaşehir Defense Societies”. The activities within this scope were supported by various social societies such as “Düzce Hilâl-i Ahmer Society”, “Düzce Teachers and Teachers Union Branch” and “Düzce Youth Union Office”. The people of Düzce, who acted under the leadership of these societies, did not submit to the occupations that started in Anatolia; He condemned the occupation movements and the atrocity of the occupation with the rallies and protests. Kuvâ-yı voluntarily served under the command of Milliyye and supported the Turkish army with his financial and moral assistance from behind the front. During the National Struggle, Düzce has been an important transition region from Istanbul to Anatolia for both soldiers and civilians. The Kuvâ-yı Milliyeciler and military ammunition, Boatman and bargeman groups, which came to the shores of Düzce with the boats and other ships, were moved from the beach to the inner parts and the Western Front. Although the Düzce-based uprising movements, which were supported by the Ottoman power supported by the Entente States, were a great threat to the National Struggle Movement, the measures taken and the common sense of the people of the region could be suppressed. Akçaşehir and Düzce have been an important intelligence and security center for the Ankara government from the moment the Turkish Grand National Assembly discussed the control in the region. It is seen that the developments that took place in the region have a significant impact in the destiny of Anatolia and in the success of the National Struggle.
