Local History of the National Struggle 1918-1923 (Vol 12): Ankara

Ankara During the National Struggle in Memoirs

A memoir is a type of writing in which a person, especially a well-known person, describes their experiences. In such works, the person presents the atmosphere of the period along with his/her own experiences. Memoirs have an important place as they contribute to historiography. However, when analyzing this type of writing, which is dominated by the opinions of individuals, other works describing the period should also be examined. Based on the fact that memoirs can be used as historical sources, this study is based on the narration of the activities of the National Struggle in Ankara, what the people there thought, and how the events progressed as seen in the memoirs. The political events of that period, the current situation in Ankara, and the developing events in Ankara and how they affect people are examined in this study. Although the memoirs were used as the main source in this study, care was taken to ensure that they mentioned Ankara and did not go beyond the subject. Therefore, care has been taken not to use repetitive sources that mention the same subject and period. In addition, research works describing this period were also utilized. The main reason for doing this is the desire to look at the subject critically, objectively, and analyzed.
