Local History of the National Struggle 1918-1923 (Vol 10): Edirne - Kırklareli - Tekirdağ

Migration and Settlement in Kirklareli During the National Struggle

At the beginning of the 20th century, Kırklareli was one of the primary places of settlement for the immigrants, especially ones coming from the Balkans. However, this changed with the Greek occupation of Kırklareli on July 25, 1920, and the settlements made to this location remained very limited during that period. After the Balkan Wars, the Bulgarians left Kırklareli, and after the liberation from occupation on November 10, 1922, the Greeks left Kırklareli and Kırklareli became one of the priority places for the resettlement of migrants. In the study examining 2,303 households consisting of 9,407 people who were settled in Kırklareli until the end of 1923 after the liberation from occupation, the data on these immigrants settled in the centre of Kırklareli and Pınarhisar, Babaeski, Demirköy and Lüleburgaz were obtained from the tables prepared by the administrators of these places.
