Establishing an International Research Ecosystem in Social Sciences
The Presidency of Strategy and Budget (SBB) and TUBA organized a workshop at Anadolu University within the scope of the project titled "Sosyal ve Kültürel Alanda Türkiye’de Araştırma Potansiyeli ve Karşılaşılan Sorunlar ile Çözüm Önerileri Araştırması"(Research Potential in Türkiye in the Social and Cultural Fields and the Problems Encountered and Solution Proposals Research), which is carried out within the framework of the protocol they signed.
Prof. Ömer Demir from Ankara Social Sciences University and Dr. Murat Yılmaz from the Social Policies Council of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye made the academic start of the workshop with a session on Assessments on the Future of Social Sciences.
TÜBA President Prof. Muzaffer Şeker and Anadolu University Vice Rector Prof. Yusuf Özkay spoke at the opening of the workshop; President Şeker made evaluations on the vital importance and interactions of the project subject and emphasized the importance of his project.
The project was planned to analyze the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of social and cultural research in Türkiye with detail, to create a research ecosystem at international standards and to provide a roadmap for decision-makers to ensure the development of this ecosystem. Public, private sector, academia and non-governmental organizations engaged in social and cultural research were included in the “Sosyal ve Kültürel Alanda Türkiye'de Araştırma Potansiyeli ve Karşılaşılan Sorunlar ile Çözüm Önerileri Araştırması”(Research Potential in Türkiye in the Social and Cultural Fields and the Problems Encountered and Solution Proposals Research) project, which was planned to provide scientific, strategic and practical policy recommendations by analyzing the most common challenges to increase Türkiye's research capacity in social and cultural fields on a global scale.
For this purpose, 5 working groups were formed, namely Structural Analysis of the Research Ecosystem, Changes in Research Qualifications over Time, Prioritization of Research Topics and Strategic Fit Analysis, Challenges and Solution Suggestions, International Comparisons and Global Examples, and the results obtained with the participation of 30 scientists were reported. In order to contribute to the prepared reports with their opinions, suggestions and criticisms, the relevant scientists came together at the workshop hosted by Anadolu University.
