The book is an expanded version of the speech titled "Earthquake Research in the Marmara Sea" given by TÜBA Full Member Prof. Dr. Naci Görür at TÜBA Istanbul Office on May 26, 2003.

Prof. Görür aimed to address the public rather than geoscientists in terms of style and content. For this reason, the topics have been simplified and written in a language that everyone can understand.

Nearly all of the information presented in this book is based on original scientific research coordinated or personally conducted by Prof. Görür.
