Başar has previously held positions at Princeton University, USA (2011-2012, Visiting Research Collaborator), and Ruhr University Bochum, Germany (2022, Mercator Fellow). His research areas include beyond 5G and 6G wireless communication networks, communication theory and systems, signal processing for communication, and artificial intelligence applications for communications.
Over the years, Dr. Başar has served as Assistant/Senior Editor in several journals, including IEEE Communications Letters (2016-2022), IEEE Transactions on Communications (2018-2022), Elsevier Physical Communication (2017-2020), and IEEE Access (2016-2018). He became an Associate Member of the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) in 2023 and is one of the youngest Fellows of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in Turkey. Dr. Başar, with over 150 international journal articles, has publications that have received approximately 13,000 citations.
Engaging in projects with companies such as Turkcell, TÜBİTAK-BİLGEM, ULAK, Huawei, Vestel, and Aselsan, Dr. Başar has also been recognized in Stanford University's list of the World's Most Influential Scientists. Among the awards he has received in the past are Koç University Outstanding Teaching Award (2023), TÜBİTAK National Leading Researcher Support (2022), IEEE Communications Society Best Young Researcher Award (2020), Science Heroes Association Scientist of the Year Award (2020), ODTÜ Parlar Foundation Research Incentive Award (2019), Science Academy Young Scientist Award (2018), IEEE Turkey Research Incentive Award (2017), and Turkish Academy of Sciences Outstanding Young Scientist Award (2017).
