Şırnak During the National Struggle

During the National Struggle, Şırnak had different characteristics when compared to the other Anatolian provinces and sanjaks. It is required to discuss the history of Şırnak from a local perspective especially because of what the British did there and the tribal structure of the region. In this context, the local conjuncture and actors were the most determining factors when writing about Şırnak during the Period of the National Struggle. The study of Şırnak in the Period of the National Struggle was carried out by doing a considerably comprehensive archive research. This study aims to discuss the conditions of the Şırnak district during the National Struggle, its social and political structure, its administrative situation, the support of people to the National Struggle, the efforts of the British, the attacks of the Armenians, the characteristics and balance of power of the tribes, the attitude of people against separatist activities, people’s efforts for the liberation of the homeland and the Ottoman State in the light of archival documents. In this study, the efforts of the regional tribes and people of Şırnak for the liberation of the homeland during the Period of the National Struggle are clearly indicated. The most important aspect of this study is that it examines this period from a local perspective and is conducted by doing a thorough archive research. Owing to the profound information provided by the archive documents and the contribution of the research, the opportunity to make an authentic and scientific study has been found.
