Elâzığ People Who Received the Independence Medal

During the National Struggle initiated under the leadership of Veteran Marshal Mustafa Kemal Ataturk and his comrades-in-arms, a law was passed to award the Independence Medal to soldiers and civilians who worked to save the homeland. The ribbons of the medal are composed of different colors such as Red, Green, White and Red-Green. Red stripes are given to soldiers and civilians who are actually on the front, green stripes are given to deputies, white stripes are given to those behind the front, red-green stripes are given to people who are deputies and have also served on the front. Although Elâzığ was among the provinces that were not occupied after the First World War, it deeply experienced the pain of the occupied places and made great efforts financially and Decently to achieve the success of the National Struggle. 65 Deputies and active duty officers registered to the population of Elâzığ in the archival records of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, In the records of the Elazig Military Service Branch Presidencies, 274 Elazigli were identified who received the Independence Medal, including 209 privates. Detailed information about these people will be presented in our study.
